m4300 managing mutlicast mdns discovery
Hi Support,
I need some advice on IGMP multicast mdns on Netgear switches for hotel environment.
We are using pfsense gateway with 2 VLAN (20 / 30) with avahi, connect to Layer 2 netgear switches, we have several chromecast on VLAN 30, while we have windows laptop and mobile devices connected to AP on VLAN 20.
We create rules, which laptop are able to communicate with which Chromecast, and it works well with all the IGMP setting on netgear L2 switches. We also create rule which wireless mobile device able to communicate to which chromecast, but it appear there is an issue that on the mobile, it appears all Chromecast during the discovery, even though it can only cast to the desired Chromecast from the rule. We hope to achieve on the mobile that during the cast discovery, it only shows the desired Chromecast set on the rule, is it that we have to use PIM-SM on IGMP snooping?
Before we purchase m4300 switch for testing, we hope you can enlighten us on this knowledge.

Hi VincentKhoo
If enable IGMP snooping, I am afraid that none of cast could be discoveried on mobile device. 1st idea from me, create MAC ACL to filter out undesired cast.

Hi Retired_Member ,
Correct me if I am wrong, mdns / bonjour are multicast traffic, shouldnt we enable IGMP snooping to better manage the udp traffic? Can we use L2 switches like GS724 or FS728TP to create Mac ACL? As we are using this solution in hotel environment, mobile devices movement are not fix, can you advice if PIM-SM is a better options to manage the mdns traffic.
Cheers Vincent
