M4300 will not update to 12.0.19.4

I have been updating our M4300s to 12.0.19.4, but some of the switches on 12.0.17.6 do not update. I transfer the stk file via http and do not get a prompt to reboot.

When I restart the switch, the console messages indicate it is unpacking the stk, but when the boot is finished, the switch is still on 12.0.17.6.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hi JRMStark,

Welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂

If the firmware file has been transferred successfully then I suggest to check the Dual Image Configuration under Maintenance -> Image Management. The Image where the file was loaded may not have been activated. If this is the case, look for the version 12.0.19.4 in Dual Image Configuration, select that image, set the "Next Active Image" to True then hit Apply. Once done, reboot the switch.

That solved it. Our other switches prompted for a reboot and upgraded without intervention. I don't know why three of them didn't, but I had obviously overlooked the Dual Image option.

      Thank you.

        Hi JRMStark,

During the upgrade process, there is an option to select which Image you want to load the firmware to. Most probably on those other switches, the Image that was selected is the current Active Image.

We are glad to hear that the issue is resolved.  The NETGEAR Community looks forward to hearing from you and being a helpful resource in the future!
