MSM4352 - Inquiring about why the MSM4352 does not include external PSUs in the packaging to support
The customer contacted NETGEAR support to clarify the power requirements of the NETGEAR M4350-44M4X4V switch. The customer expressed significant dissatisfaction and perceived inaccuracies in the product documentation.
The core issue is a discrepancy between the product's marketing as a PoE++ switch and its out-of-the-box functionality. While marketed as PoE++, the switch, as shipped, does not provide the power output necessary to support PoE++ on all ports. The base unit provides only 194W of PoE budget, which is insufficient for full PoE++ capability (75W per port).
The customer stated that to achieve full PoE++ functionality across all 44 ports, two additional 2000W power supplies are required. The customer indicated that this requirement was not clearly stated in the product documentation, leading to a misunderstanding and the purchase of switches that did not meet his immediate needs.
The customer highlighted the additional financial burden imposed by the need to purchase these extra power supplies, especially given the already substantial cost of the switches. The customer characterized the product marketing as misleading, as the switch does not deliver PoE++ functionality without further investment.
In the conversation, the customer also pointed out that other NETGEAR PoE++ switches they use have clear labeling and color-coding to differentiate between PoE+ and PoE++ ports. The customer suggested that the M4350-44M4X4V should have been marketed as "PoE++ capable" to avoid misleading customers.
Hi Test15 ,
Thank you for your message. For PoE++ (90W/port) managed switches supporting large PoE budgets without any additional PSUs, please check the M4250 series (www.netgear.com/m4250) as there are 12-, 24-, and 40-port switches with multiple internal power supplies ready to go.
I appreciate your feedback on M4350 and trust that our product pages and our datasheet are clearly describing the M4350-44M4X4V (MSM4352) capabilities:
- Product Page:
https://www.netgear.com/business/wired/switches/fully-managed/msm4352/
M4350-44M4X4V Fully Managed Switch (MSM4352)
44x2.5G, 4x10G/Multi-gig PoE++ (194W base, up to 3,314W) and 4xSFP28 25G (MSM4352) Managed Switch
- 44 2.5G and 4 10G/Multi-gig PoE++ ports with 4 25GBASE-X SFP28 uplinks
- 550W internal power supply providing 194W of PoE budget
- 2 slots for modular power supplies (1+1 redundancy and/or EPS share)
- Any APS350Wv1, APS600Wv2, APS920Wv1, or APS2000Wv1 can be used
- The PoE budget can reach 3,314W, the redundant PoE budget can reach 1,794W
- M4350 Datasheet:
Everywhere the M4350-44M4X4V (MSM4352) shows with 194W base PoE budget and max 3,314W when additional PSUs.
Simple table can be found on page 5, with the various combinations of PSUs.
