NMS300 external file server settings

Question

Hello, I am asking for help setting up the external file server on NMS300. A previous post had all the same symptoms as myself but the post closed.

When I try and test the connection to the external file server it says it "Fails to connect to extrenal file server. Check settings".

I have tried every combination of IP, hostname, sharename, folder\folder and folder/folder format, and am now losing it!

The documentation does not help.

I am using Windows 10 fully updated, updated NMS and Firewalls on both NMS PC and external backup PC allowing TFTP FTP Telnet and Syslog ports through.

Anyone out there had similar problems and actually solved it?

Hi&nbsp;johnrobertson12&nbsp;,&nbsp;Welcome to community,&nbsp;I tried it and it worked on NMS30 1.6.0.22.Please refer to my steps.&nbsp;My configuration steps are as follows:&nbsp;1. Created a folder in D disk root directory2. Share the folder and select some user can "Read/Write". (For example "administrator")3. Set configuration in the&nbsp;External File Server Setting (Please see attachment file)4. Click "test" for test whether the folder can be accessed on NMS300(Please see attachment file).PS:Suggest closing the firewall on the PC.

Also I should have added that I can share and access the folder I am trying to access from the PC holding the NMS no problem, and have included a AD user as admin for the NMS that can write to the folder and logging into NMS as it. So the Windows10 side is good.

Still all variants ask me to check external server setting. Hope that little extra info helps.

johnrobertson12,&nbsp;As per checking, you can access the Share folder but the NMS300 is having issues connecting to that folder. We might need to take a look at it and have a case open on NETGEAR support. Please let them know what is happening.&nbsp;You can also try to change the admin rights of the folder to "Everyone" in order for the whole network to see it. Yes "Everyone" has full control.

Thank you kevin_hong&nbsp;for your help. I have done this many times now with different credentials, still&nbsp; saying settings need checking, failed to connect to external server. I have had my colleagues double check the shares and paths also. One thing I did notice was you say you are using 1.6.0.22.....Im on 21 and couldnt find 22 as an option to download from Netgear support site. Or was it a typo?Anyway, Im at a loss now, thank you again for your help.
