No Gigabit connection GS108Ev3
Hi,
recently I bought a GS108Ev3 to upgrade my GS105E.
The problem is that I can't get a Gigabit connection on my laptop (Asus K52JC with JMicron Gigabit Ethernet Adapter incl. latest drivers).
If I plug my laptop in the GS105E I get 1Gbps connection.
If I plug my laptop in the GS108Ev3 I get 100Mbps connection.
If I plug the GS105E in the GS108Ev3 and my laptop in the GS105E I get Gigabit connection.
I really don't get it, what's wrong?

Hi Onnovh,
Kindly answer the questions I have summarized below:
1. Have you tried connecting your Asus laptop to all 8 ports of your GS108Ev3?
2. Do you get 100Mbps of connection on all 8 ports of your GS108Ev3?
3. What port LEDs are lit up when your Asus laptop is connected to any of the 8 ports of your GS108Ev3?
4. What is the current firmware version of your GS108Ev3?
5. Have you tried to reboot your GS108Ev3 while your Asus laptop is connected to it and still get 100Mbps of connection?
6. Have you tried to reset your GS108Ev3 to factory defaults?
I will be looking forward to your response.

Yes I dit, all ports give 100mbps.
2. Do you get 100Mbps of connection on all 8 ports of your GS108Ev3?
Yes.
3. What port LEDs are lit up when your Asus laptop is connected to any of the 8 ports of your GS108Ev3?
Left LED (100M)
4. What is the current firmware version of your GS108Ev3?
Latest, 2.00.05.
5. Have you tried to reboot your GS108Ev3 while your Asus laptop is connected to it and still get 100Mbps of connection?
Yes , I did, still 100Mbps.
6. Have you tried to reset your GS108Ev3 to factory defaults?
Yes, I did, still 100Mbps.
I tested all ports with a ReadyNas 102, all 8 ports gave 1Gbps connection.
When I use this setup I get a 1Gbps connection:
Asus <--> GS105E <--> GS108v3 <--> Modem
But with this setup I get a 100Mbps connection no mather what I do:
Asus <--> GS108v3 <--> Modem
Network card is set to Auto negotiation, Forcing 1Gbps doesn't do anything.
It's really frustrating because I really need those 3 extra ports!

Hello Onnovh,
Is it GS108v3 or GS108Ev3? They are not the same. The GS108v3 is just a pass through switch while the GS108Ev3 is a Prosafe Plus switch that has FW.
If you are using GS108Ev3, try updating the firmware. See GS108Ev3 downloads
Also with this setup Asus <--> GS105E <--> GS108v3 <--> Modem, leaving both switches connected to each other and you connect computer straight to the GS108, do you still get gigabit speed or the 100mbps?
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to your update.

- OnnovhAspirantNope, tried every step but still no luck.
I mentioned that if I plug my laptop in the GS105E it connects instantly on 1Gbps but when I plug it in the GS108Ev3 it takes about 10 seconds before it connects on 100Mbps.- DaneANETGEAR Employee Retired
Hi Onnovh,
It seems you have already opened a support ticket with Netgear Support and you have already submitted the requested packet capture using Wireshark. I suggest that you kindly wait for the response of Netgear Support about the findings of the packet capture whether it might be a compatibility issue between the Asus K52JC laptop and the GS108Ev3.
I will be waiting for your feedback about your support ticket.

I ran across this thread, which I'm not sure is even monitored anymore or if the final outcome was resolved, but I'm having a very similar problem with my switch, except the port the only recognizes 100MB is the port being rung to my router, which effects everything I have plugged into the switch. If someone still tracks this thread, I would like to know if a solution was ever recovered so I can try to get my switch running correctly. Thanks.
