Problems with VRRP interface tracking on M4300-28G

Dear community,

I am trying to set up VRRP on two M4100-28G with latest firmware 12.0.7.7.

I have set up 3 IP based VLAN networks and I am trying to run VRRP in all directions.

There is no problem in the priority of the switches. But when I try to degrade a priority based on single interface it's not working.

I will explain what I mean. Let's say that I have interface 23 and interface 24 in VLAN15.

I create VRRP with id:15 and one of the switches becomes master and the other backup.

When I go to VRRP tracking and select vrrp 15 I can choose only interface VLAN15 but not the interfaces 23 or 24, the software does not see them online, I get false even when there is active device on the other hand. This way the only way when I can get a priority degrade is when all interfaces of that VLAN are down.

This is not what I want because I have other interfaces in different VLANS and I would like to drop the priority based on single interface not based on the whole VLAN interface.

I would like to know can I do what I want and how can I do it, or I have to accept that this is what Netgear firmware is possible.

I will be gratefull for any help!

  • Firmware is upgraded and I did have proper access to the switch. I just prefer the web GUI instead of CLI. Unfortunately what you suggested isn't working. I kepp getting the same error.

However my colleagues manage to fihish with this problem. The just create another vlan which includes the interface we want to track. Thus one and the same interface is part of two vlans. After this in vvrp tracking they include the vlan which include only the interface we care about and the magic happens.

I would like to close this post as solved!

    Hi vesso,

    Welcome to our community! :)

It seems that you only configured the VRRP on the VLAN interface whose members are port 23 and 24. You can actually configure VRRP on either the interface VLAN / Port (e.g. 1/0/1). In order for you to see the port itself on the VRRP tracking. You need to configure the port for VRRP.

Here is the reference manual (page 160).

      HI,

I have tried your solution using the web interface, because I am not able to get CLI access right now.

Unfortunately I got error when I have tried to use the interface instead of vlan when the vrrp is created.

      What else can I try?

        vesso,

The manual that I provided also includes the setup for the admin page(GUI). Please make sure that your PC is part of the management VLAN.
