Routing Question
Hi, I have a quick question with regard to a GS752TP switch.
If I have a switch address (native VLAN) in the 192.168.10.0 network does the default gateway of the switch have to be in the same network or can it be in one of the VLANs that the swicth manages, e.g. a device in the 192.168.1.0 network which is VLAN 10?
Hi RugbyWreck,
Well, it is actually recommended that the management IP of the switch and the default gateway should be on the same network. You cannot apply an IP to the switch outside its subnet address. IPs doesn't really matter to the switch. As long as it receives tagged and untagged traffic, it will work. The IPs in the switch will only matter for the management of the GUI.

Hi John,
Thank you for the answer. Whilst not ideal it may be the most expedient set-up for me in one particular situation and it's good to know that it should work even if it's not an expressly recommended solution.

Yes and the management will only work if you do have Inter-VLAN routing enabled.
