Strange GS116Ev2 Mis behaving

I have a GS116Ev2 and I tried to change the password from that of the default and it would then not accept this new password or the default old one. I reset the unit and did this again , really carefully , and again it will not accept any password. I reset it again to make do with the default password, but now the LAG will not work.

I'm on firmware 2.0.0.23 with this unit.

I wonder whether I have not performed the reset corrently and it has messed the unit up somewhat....

any ideas

thanks

  • Hi Nick123,

With regard to this, I encourage you to open an online case with NETGEAR Support since it seems the switch hardware is faulty.  Kindly attach a soft copy of the Proof of Purchase or Sales Invoice of the GS116Ev2 for warranty verification.

    Hi Nick123,

    Welcome to the community! :)

Your GS116Ev2 is using a very old firmware.  The password will be back to its default password which is just the word "password" (without the quotation marks) and all of the configured setting will be all wiped out after the GS116Ev2 has been factory reset.

    Kindly try these steps:

    a. Get a straightened paper clip.  Make sure the GS116Ev2 is turned on.

    b. Insert the paper clip to the factory defaults hole then press and hold the reset button inside it for 30 seconds.

    c. After 30 seconds, while you still press and hold the reset button, turn off the GS116Ev2.  Wait for 5 seconds.

    d. After 5 seconds, while you still press and hold the reset button, turn on the GS116Ev2. Wait for another 5 seconds.

    e. After 5 seconds, release the paper clip from the  factory defaults hole.

f, Kindly try to login using the default password.

Make sure also that you are using the latest ProSAFE Plus Configuration Utility v2.3.5.  You can download it here.

If you are able to login and manage the GS116Ev2 using the latest  ProSAFE Plus Configuration Utility, I recommend you to upgrade the firmware the latest version 2.0.1.26.  You can download it here.   Be reminded to perform a factory reset after doing a firmware upgrade.

    Regards,

thanks for that. But it seems to have made matters worse. Now only the 100mb/s light comes on when I plug in a cable even though at the other end of the cable a GS724T is present and that reports a gigabit connection. I'm also now unable to see the switch in the Configuration utility, (I am using v2.3.5)

      thanks

      Nick

        Hi Nick123,

        Kindly try these steps:

        a. Disconnect the GS116Ev2 from the existing network.

        b. Connect a PC (where the latest ProSAFE Plus Config Utility is installed) directly to any working LAN port of the GS116Ev2.

        c. Check if the GS116Ev2 will be detected on the ProSAFE Plus Config Utility.

        d. Try to reboot the GS116Ev2 as well.

        Regards,
