Switchport mode configuration vs VLAN mombership configuration
I am using an M4100 for the first time and am a bit confused about the difference between "switchport mode" configuration and "VLAN membership" it seems to me, both are a different way to accomplish the same. Is this assumption correct ?
If so, has one advantages/limitations over the other ?
I consider it really a pity that there is not much background information in the user manual. The UM is more
"click here, click there", which is not really informative.
Hello output,
Welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂
Your assumption is correct, these are the different ways to configure ports on a switch.
The Switchport Mode simplifies the VLAN configuration. On switches that does not have "VLAN Trunking Configuration" tab, you will have to go to VLAN Membership configure ports for each VLANs and then go to Port PVID Configuration. With "VLAN Trunking Configuration" you can configure these on one tab.
