VLAN Trunking across multiple GS748T (and other switches)
Hi, We have a setup with a number of Netgear switches (two are GS748Tv5) and I want to create a VLAN, let's say 10 which is present on both switches. What I want is ports 1,2,3 and 4 on Switc...

Hi Carl,
Thank you for replying so promptly.
Okay, so I've made a test VLAN 5
Switch A:
Port 39 goes to Switch B, and the one port I want to be a member of VLAN 5 on Switch A is port 44
I take port 44 out of the default VLAN 1 (but not port 39)
As where I am managing it from is plugged into Switch A, I can no longer see the device on Port 44 at this point, which is what I would expect.
Looking at the PVID Config:
Port 44 has a Configured PVID of 1, Current PVID of 1, VLAN Member of 5 - should the PVID be 5 and VLAN tag of none (should it be 5?)
Port 39 has a Configured PVID of 1, Current PVID of 1, VLAN Member of 1,5, and VLAN tag of 5 - I want this to still be in VLAN 1
On switch B
Same VLAN setup:
Then on the VLAN side, port 48 is the port to Switch A (tagged) and I want ports 1 and ports 6 in VLAN 5:
The PVID Configuration is as follows:
Are you able to suggest what changes I need to make?
Many thanks
M

Hi mattstannard,
Sorry for late to back, but today is really a busy day.
Switch A
Change Port 44 pvid to 5.
Switch B
Change Ports 1 and Port 6 to 5.
All the other configurations are all right .
Apply the changes above and check how things go. Anything in trouble keep us posted .
Best Regards

Hi Carl,
Thank you.
So when I do this, I can see the device which is fine, but I want whats plugged into Switch B to be on two VLANs.
Basically, I have 10 devices that generate a lot of broadcast traffic, I want these on VLAN5 on Switch A.
On Switch B I want to be able to see VLAN5, but also be connected to VLAN1 as that's where the rest of the network is and so when I changed the PVID I could see my deivces but could no longer browse the internet.
Is this possible?
Many thanks
M

Sorry for late to back.
As far as I known , it is not possible to achieve that by vlan.
Devices like pc generate traffic with no tags, and the untagged traffic would all goes into the pvid vlan. So it can't sperate traffic to internet and to Switch A.
The goal setting two vlan on Swith B is just want to prevent devices on swithB from the broadcast that generate from devices on swithA? If it is , I think you can achieve this by the funtion of Storm Control intead of setting two vlans on Switch B.
About how to set Storm Control you can refer here page 50-51.
Anything in trouble keep us posted.
Best Regards
Carl
