    Hello bobBombadil

    Welcome to the Netgear Community!

Don't forget the trunk to the GS305E #2 should not include the tagged frames for the VLAN 3001 only. Give it also (similar to the other green trunk connections) the [U]ntagged VLAN 1 (designated al LAN on the other sections of your future network). It's required to retain the management for the GS305E #2 - because these are not switches with a managed core, allowing freely define a Management VLAN, since the uC can talk with untagged frames only.

It's also an 802.1q VLAN number 1, just run over the trunks as untagged for simplicity.

Have fun with your little network!

    Regards

    -Kurt.

What you designate as LAN ports are simply so called access ports for VLAN 1, configured accordingly as only [U]ntagged port and with the PVID set to 1.

Simar the ports you defined with the long name 802.1Q VLAN 3000 and 3001 will serve as access ports, set for [U]ntagged 3000 PVID 3000 resp.  [U]ntagged 3001 PVID 3001, so becoming LAN ports 3000 or 3001.

        Hi schumaku ,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I was wondering about the 'untagged vlans' provided by the switch, especially the 'default untagged vlan' 1 ...

I think I get your point on trunking thru automatic vlan 1 (untagged) because the management interface requires it ...

Sounds like a vital hint to me.

Thanks again for all the tips. I'll make another post when I actually try it ... right now it's all just a pile of modules and some cables sitting on an old coffee table ... I am probably a good example of a highly ineffective person ...

Take care, and ... I'll be back ...
