GS305E and VLANs
I'm trying to get a GS305E switch configured for VLANs. The VLANs at the port on the router to which this switch is connected are 5 (main one) and 7. I need to configure this switch so that VLAN 7 ...
So simple access ports on 2..5 or VLAN 7, while port 1 serves as uplink for VLAN 5 and VLAN 7. Should the uplink carry both VLAN in a tagged trunk, or is the uplink intended to carry the VLAN 5 as untagged?
Is the router port where you are connecting the uplink carrying the main VLAN 5 as untagged (also serving as the management VLAN), while the VLAN 7 is there as a tagged?
Keep in mind the uplink port post be configured the same way as your primary router port...
I generally configure the trunks so that all the VLANs going on the switch trunks are tagged (and that includes VLAN 1, which is my main VLAN and also used for management). I can reach the management web page of my three smart switches with that setup. So in your case, I'd set up the trunk to carry VLAN 5 and 7, both tagged (and as schumaku says, you do need to match that on the router side).
One caveat is that my router->switch connections are all untagged. (I have two routers, and use VLANs to keep their subnets separated).
Client ports 2-5 would only be members of VLAN 7, and they would be untagged.
If I made the router's port VLAN 7 only, how would I manage the switch?
It wasn't clear to me that you actually need to manage it. But if only was on VLAN 7, you should be able to access the web page from a PC connected to the switch if you wanted to check on something.
In any event, it sounds like the only reason to put VLAN 5 on the router<->switch trunk is to let you reach the web page from VLAN 5.

Appears to me you don't have many different Plus switches. Not all Netgear Smart Managed switches are built on a managed switch core - most earlier Plus (newly designated Easy Smart Managed) IP stacks were not able to work with tagged frames (and lower than default standard MTU) for the Web UI.
With the recent v2 firmware updates, some newer models started to "understand" tagged frames.
Appears to me you don't have many different Plus switches.
The switches I am using now are
- GS728TPv2
- GS510TP
- GS108Ev3
and one other (unmanaged) Netgear switch.
I think that means only one "plus" switch model (the GS108Ev3).
