GS305EPP Management VLAN
Hi there!
I am trying to configure the GS305EPP in a way that i can integrate it into my management vlan. (this is where the switch should send its DHCPREQUESTS to.)
Lets define 3 theoretical VLANs: 2,3,4:
VLAN 4 is Management.
The Switch uplink (Port 5) is attached to a Cisco Switch, the uplink port config looks like:
Spoiler
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/24
description Netgear-PoE
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,3
switchport trunk native vlan 4
switchport mode trunk
description Netgear-PoE
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,3
switchport trunk native vlan 4
switchport mode trunk
I configured the GS305EPP like:
Default VLAN1 is on a unused AND unconnected port only: port 4
VLAN2 is on port: 1,2,3,5 Tagged and default PVID on Port: 1,2,3
VLAN3 is on port: 1,2,3,5 Tagged and default PVID on Port: NONE
VLAN4 is on port: 5 untagged and default PVID on Port: 5
The Switch currently sends DHCPDISCOVER / DHCPREQUESTS on VLAN 2 and 3 but NOT on VLAN4.
I'd like the switch to only send a DHCPDISCOVER / DHCPREQUESTS on VLAN4, so kind of behave exactly the opposite way it currently does.
Its been a while since i used a netgear switch, sorry 🙂
I choose to use untagged for management vlan because there is no way to select a vlan for management. i just assumed that the untagged vlan would be the first the switch uses for dhcp.
Any suggestions how i could get the management interface into vlan 4?
Thanks in advance!

There is no management VLAN on most Smart Managed Plus switches (GSxxxE). The tiny management microcontroller for the switch config does work and listen on all VLANs so restricting to just one VLAN isn't possible unfortunately.

Since the native VLAN on your CISCO switch is VLAN 4, this is the VLAN you should use as untagged with its VID (4) as PVID on all links between the switches. It should work. If it doesn't, consider using the 'General' switchport mode on the CISCO switch.
