GS308E no web access to 802.1Q enabled switch
I cannot connect to the web interface when my router sends tagged packets (802.1Q) to the switch.
The router is running OpenWRT, switch is on latest firmware. Advanced VLAN 802.1Q is enabled.
Router: port 1 (going to switch) tagged vlan 1 and 3
Switch: port 1 (from router) tagged vlan 1 and 3, PVID is 1. Port 2 is also tagged vlan 1 and 3 and goes to a WiFi access point.
The switch should get an IP via DHCP but it doesn't seem to get one.
When I disable port tagging on the router, the switch gets an IP and the web interface is accessible. But then obviously my switch doesn't receive the vlan 3 packets...
So I solved this one myself:
on the router I had to set the port to the switch as follows:
vlan 1: untagged
vlan 3: tagged
Could someone explain why I can't just send tagged packets to the switch?

Try the Netgear Switch Discovery Tool or the ProSafePlus Configuration Utility to disclver the switch. The limitation on most Smart Managed Plus switches (except e.g. the XS724EM) is that you can't fix the management interface to a defined VLAN - neither for the DHCP process, nor is there any isolation for it - well possible the GS308E does pick up a DHCP address from any VLAN.
- BMelAspirantIsn't that a major limitation. It doesn't say on the box!
