GS724TPv2 Firmware and bootcode updates

I just purchased a brand new GS724TPv2 switch on 9/21/2020 and wanted to begin by updating it to the latest firmware,  I am not only amazed at how old the firmware and boot code is on this unit, but also at what appears to be the number of archaic steps necessary to update the switch without bricking it.

The switch has boot code B1.0.0.2 and firmware 1.1.1.29.  If I understand what I have read correctly, I need to begin by updating the boot code to 1.0.0.9 (which is nowhere to be found for more than a couple of days), then the firmware to 3.0.6.1, then to the latest 5.2.0.11, all by using the Maintenance, Download, TFTP File Download option?  I tried using the SmartWizard Discovery tool I downloaded from the GS724TP Support Page, which did not display any devices and then noticed the date of the executable was 2004.

At this point, not sure if its worth continuing with this or returning the switch for a brand that is committed to being current.

  • Never mind, went back to the Netgear support site and found the V1.1.50.39 .rom firmware.

    Appears you mix up firmware/downloads for the legacy GS724TP model (lauched about 14 years ago!!!)  with the GS724TPv2. Strictly stick with the downloads for correct model and version.

    If your's is a v2 start here for the conversion from a v1.1.x to v2 -> https://kb.netgear.com/000061525/GS724TPv2-GS724TPP-Firmware-Version-2-0-0-16

    Once done you can continue with the current firmware, as of writing https://kb.netgear.com/000061912/GS724TPv2-GS724TPP-Firmware-Version-2-0-2-6

    The process is purley Web (http) based. No nasty utilities, no tftp (while still possible).

      Thank you for the reply, did not realize that the GS724TP and GS724TPv2 were listed seperately.  After downloaded both upgrade zip files, I noticed that the V2.0.0.16 download includes a .bix and a .img firmware image, but no .rom image as the HTTP Download instructions says it should.  Which one should I use?
