Any in-band communication to the switch core CPU and it's IP stack is lost?
Wonder on how you want to talk ssh or telnet to the very same switch then...

The IP connectivity from the Syno NAS - assuming it's connected direct or indirect to the same GS724TPv3 - can be retained reliably?

Me neither.
Loop Detection and/or Auto DoS Prevention enabled on the switch?
Start collecting and monitoring syslog from the switch -might- record and help unveiling a possible cause.
For example by operating a syslog server (certainly available on Syno NAS OS as it is on QNAP) and see what happens short before the connections are lost can bring some light. Doing so won't kill an average modern NAS...
Typical cause could be related to STP or some DOS...

The PoE controller in the switch does not require IP connectivity to the switch switch CPU.

Unfortunately, no communication with the switch works.
Likewise, the switch is unavailable in Netgear Insight.
I was thinking about rebooting as a preventive measure, for example rebooting every 3 days at night to avoid losing connection.
Reboot of course while the switch is still IP accessible.
Loop detection (STP) and DoS were enabled.
After disabling STP the switch died and I had to reboot to factory settings.
I only have the syslog before the loss of communication from Insight. (attached)

Another option is to power the switch from a smart plug, so you can easily power-cycle it remotely. You could also do this on a schedule.
