gs748ts mac based port security

Trying to set up the switch (firmware version 5.2.0.11) as a basic managed switch and the only feature that needs to be enabled is mac based port security.

I'd like to statically set the allowed mac address on a specific port.  Any other device that connects to that particular switch port should either result in the port being shutdown, or just drop all traffic to / from that port.

The user manual (page 6-17) says mac addressses can be statically configured, but I cannot find that option anywhere in the UI.

Is this something that can be done with this model switch?

What are the steps to achieve static mac assignment to designated port association?

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi AdaMich,

On the web-GUI, go to  Switching > Address Table > Advanced > Static Addresses.   I believe you will need to enter the MAC address manually here and you can select which interface as well as set the status of it.  Kindly read paged 4-53 to 4-54 of the GS748TS user manual here.  Afterwards, configure Port Security.

    Let us know the results.

Thanks for the response DaneA.  That was exactly what I was missing.

For others that may run into the same issue, with the bost from DaneA, here is step-by-step what I did in my config that worked.

1 - Security > Traffic Control > Port Security > modified the port setting to 'Locked' and made note of the port name  > Apply

2 - Switching > Address Table > Static Addresses > select the VLAN, enter the mac address, provide interface name, set status to 'Secure' > Apply

As per the manual, setting the port status to 'Secure' indicates the mac address is defined for a locked interface.

Thanks again DaneA for the bump.
