POE or not POE
I assume no damage will be caused by plugging a device that doesn’t draw POE into a switch POE enabled socket?

In theory, correct. You can plug non-poe devices into poe switches. The switches should have an interrogation to it that tells it to send power for the poe devices. that's for active poe switches. The passive one (like injectors) supply power all the time.
