Setting MTU on GS108Tv3

Hello all,

I would like to enable a large MTU going from my NAS to several devices, across 3 linked GS108Tv3 switches. It seems setting MTU on the switch is an all or nothing option, meaning when I enable it then its enabled on all switch ports. If I have a device that is connected to these switches, but does uses the default MTU, will I run into problems bc the port is configured for 9K?

Thanks,
Steve

  • Nothing that stop you - these switches re open to MTU of e.g. 9216.

It's interesting Netgear has decided not to add the MAX MTU these switch models are supporting, neither in the data sheet nor in the user manual. In the newer model incarnations, they have added this information in the Port Status:

Some newer models do however refer the MTU on the device Werb UI by port. Don't know if this applies also to the GS108Tv3 / GS110TPv3 / GS110TPP models.

Needles to say: All the devices must be configured to operate on Jumbo Frames. So we're not talking of a switch or config issue here, this is not a problem, sorry.

The link you included was an older switch, so that is why I asked the question within the context of the GS108Tv3. I guess the answer is that I have to configure MTU for 9K across all ports and then the ports that actually utilize the 9K MTU will be good to go.

      Thanks!

No, I had referred to a decent XS7xxEM (a Plus switch on a managed core) model. To my knowledge is no control to define an MTU by port on most similar GS108Tv3 / GS110TPv3 / GS110TPP, on a quick look over the fine user manual, I can't the controls you are looking for.
