Which Managed Switch Range?
Hi,
Hopefully a very simple question. We are looking for 2 small managed PoE switches (ideally 1x8 port and 1x16 port). However, we're a bit confused by the various models and product ranges.
The environment these switches are going into is quite a complicated one with multiple vLans, LAGs between switches and SMNP management/monitoring.
We purchased (in error it turns out) GS3108EPP and GS3116EPP. These don't have the necessary depth of configuration to setup the vLANS and LAGs the way they need to be. I'm looking for the next range up in terms of config options. They are replacing a GS716T (going to 8 port one) and a JGS516PE both of which are now discontinued. Can someone please suggest the models we are need to replace them.

Depends how much you like to spend, what warranty and support terms you expect.
The GS324TPv2 and GS310TPv2 might be a very reasonable starting point. To create some more confusion, these are designated Smart Managed Essential - as targeting a different price segment, and not offering Netgear Insight cloud management.
In Netgear terms, these are so called Smart Switches not Managed Switch types, but wil possibly cover your needs.
Hi, Thanks very much for your reply! I did see these, and think they'll do the trick, but I was really hoping for something smaller than 24 port though as 16 is a bit bigger than we really need. Off the top of my head, I think there are about 12-14 connections required including the LAG connection back to the main switch... I've struggling to find anything between 10 ports and 24 ports with the necessary depth of configuration though. I guess having plenty of scope for expansion is never a bad things though...
Would anyone be able to post me a screenshot of a typical config screen for one of these - ideally the vLAN page. We need the more advanced vLAN settings that allow assigning of vLAN to LAGs, and also LAGs need to support LACP

What "advanced VLAN settings" are you behind?
Looking for controls and functions like Acceptable Frame Types, Ingress Filtering, Forbidden VLANs Dynamic VLANs?
Looking for more informational lists with Untagged VLANs and/or Tagged VLANs to enhance the visibility to the network admin or audit purposes?
Or is there some confusion when it comes to LAG(s) - what might be shown elsewhere as kind of a logical interface sometimes?
The GS310TPv2, the GS324TPv2, and the GS348TPv2 are supporting Link Aggregation with
- Dynamic LACP LAG as per IEEE 802.3ad
- Manual Static LAG
- The max number of Static or Dynamic LACP LAGs is 8.
- Each of the 8 LAGs can contain up to 8 member ports.
We purchased (in error it turns out) GS3108EPP and GS3116EPP.
There are no GS3nnnEPP.
Your concerns seem to be related to the configuration flexibility might come from these effective models GS108EPP and GS116EP.
Yes, some limitations apply to these Gigabit Ethernet Easy Smart Essentials Switch models - as built on an unmanaged switch core, and originally with a Web UI workable on small screens like mobile phones:
- Lacking of a Management VLAN feature
- Predefined and fixed LAG on predefined ports
- Static LAGs only
- Predefined groups with up to four four ports for LAG membership (max two on the GS108EPP, resp, max four on the GS116EPP)
