Are Ethernet switch problems easy to diagnose?
My ethernet system is crippled. Some ethernet devices are not on the network anymore...
It will only work on 3 of 4 ethernet ports out of the R8000 router.
I disconnected the 8-port switch which has 3 of the 8 lights on when there is nothing plugged in to the switch.
So I read that something can happen to cause a loop that blocks ethernet signals from work on my home network. The system has worked for many many years.
Would a bad switch cause issues with IP address in the router ?
I have a GS116NA that I hope to open and install to replace the 8-port switch...
Is this a good choice for a home network upgrade?
I finally pulled the trigger and installed the new 16-port GS116NA ethernet switch.
POOOOOF!
Problems solved. Apparently it was a bad 8-port ethernet switch that gave up the ghost and was cause all kinds of problems that did not make the problem obvious!

It is easy to identify if the switch is running some problems because this is just a plug-and-play device by isolating each port or try replacing an ethernet cable. It is also a good choice to have a 16-port switch to your network.
