GS105v5 / GS108v4 - Operating Temp and MTBF

I'm choosing either a small cluster of four GS105v5 or two GS108v4 to install underneath my house (probably 105). The Netgear docs are inconsistent on GS105/108 operating temp and MTBF. Can I get clarification on these.

http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/datasheet/en/GS105v5-GS108v4.pdf -- gives the following:

GS105 -- oper. temp 0-50C , and MTBF 3,197,945 (hours?!)

GS108 -- oper. temp 0-40C , and MTBF 9,727,733 (humm...)

http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/GS105/GS105_datasheet_04Sept03.pdf -- gives the following

GS105 -- oper. temp 0-40C , and MTBF 87,600 hours (10 year)

and the box for both GS105v5 and GS108v4 gives the oper. temp as 0-40C (no MTBF given).

Both docs were followed through basic netgear website links from the product summary pages and product support pages. And I happen to have both products at home for the boxes! But I also see that 0-50C mentioned or bragged at other Netgear pages. I was hoping for the 0-50C just to ensure an extra wide margin (although 0-40 would be fine too).

  • Additional info to my question above -- The paper installation guide sheet included with the GS104v5 also says oper. temp 0-50C in the spec section, even though the box for it says 0-40C. That spec sheet is dated Apr 2014 (bar code 201-18138-01).

    Hi malexandertx,

    Welcome to NETGEAR community!

    These specs for two switches:

    GS105 – 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch 10/100/1000 Mbps  / GS105;

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/GS105/GS105_datasheet_04Sept03.pdf

    GS105 -- oper. temp 0-40C

    GS105v5 – ProSAFE Plus 5-port Switch / GS105 V5

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/datasheet/en/GS105v5-GS108v4.pdf

    GS105v5 -- oper. temp 0-50C

If you buy GS105v5, the oper.temp should be 0-50C.

Thanks. the "version" upgrade to v5 is subtle! And a little surprising that the oper. temp would change between the two, but nice it did.

I do indeed have the GS105v5, and the box it came in lists the "package contents" as a v5 (on side of box). But the spec list on the box still indicates 0-40C. That might be something for the packaging guys to fix.
