Internet drops on devices connected to router (not switch) after installing GS108v4

Equipment:

Router/Modem - Arris SBG7600AC2 (2+ years old, 4 Ethernet ports)
Switch - GS108v4 (new)
Devices - both Windows 11, connected directly to router
The Windows devices have both WIFI and Ethernet connectivity; for both WIFI has been turned off (as a part of testing)
I will add firmware to this post within a few hours.
I have a home network with an Arris SBG7600AC2 modem/router. We have two Windows 11 devices connected directly to the router which have functioned fine RE network and internet connectivity for many months.
ISP is stable and no downtime issues reported recently.
The GS108v4 was installed (uplink uses 5 port) and 5 connections were made to 5 wired points around the house, two of which have Android TVs connected, and one of which has an extender. The other two endpoints are empty outlets. There are two other devices connected to the switch, an Arlo hub + camera and a VOIP connection.
After installing the GS108v4, the two Windows 11 computers which remained connected directly to the router (not the switch) began to experience internet connectivity dropouts - temporary loss of connection, from a few seconds to a few minutes. Rebooting the system clears things, but then the dropouts resume.

I tested with the switch fully disconnected - no dropouts, e.g., problem appears resolved.
I plan to test with most endpoints empty but the switch connected within a few hours.
Are there configuration steps needed to make the switch work in this scenario?

I've seen suggestions RE disabling "loop detection"
I've seen comments RE "NAT" settings
What further information would help test for faults / correct this situation?
Thanks.

the gs108 is a pretty basic unmanaged switch. they usually work or not. It doesn't have any settings to change.

I'd try it like you suggested with the computers connected and the switch but nothing else.

Then add devices in one at time to test stability.

      Arris Firmware Version: 9.1.103AA72

First test: connected the switch to the router, and a Windows 11 computer to the switch. No other connections to the router, no other connections to the switch. Just one PC to the switch and the switch to the router.

Result: "Unknown network" and the router refused to assign an IP address to the computer (through the switch),

Disconnected the switch, reconnected the computer directly to the router - full connectivity. (Hence my ability to post this update.)

I am going to check security settings on the Arris, but it would seem that it doesn't recognize any hardward connected via the switch. I actually have a couple other switches so I can test for a hardware failure, but first I want to eliminate "soft" solutions to this.
