BR500 Installation Problem

I have a new BR500, and I understand it should find the insight cloud simply by plugging it into internet access. I've done that both on the LAN side of my existing router and directly to the WAN modem. The instructions say both should work, but neither one works for me.

 

I have subscribed to the Insight VPN Service, but the BR500 dashboard continually shows "Access to cloud is not available" and "Access to Insight VPN is not available". I have a VPN service SKU/Key but have no idea what to do with it.

 

I've tried the Setup Wizard but it insists on trying to upgrade the firmware even though I already installed the latest. There is no way to skip this step.

 

I tried searching the forum help but have not found any useful help. Can someone tell me what to do next to try to fix this?

    Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

    If you want to set up BR500 insight vpn,must register BR500 to insight firstly.
    Below is the setup steps:
    1.Let BR500 can access Internet
    2.Login netgear webpoartal (www.insight.netgear.com) or login netgear insight app
    3.Register BR500 to insight
    4.After BR500 online on insight,add BR500 to insight VPN group
    5.Now,you can use insight vpn.

      The BR500 already is registered and working with Insight VPN. The blue and green LEDs are ON. All of the indications on the BR500 user interface show that it is working. But, I cannot get Windows Remote Desktop to work over the VPN. That was my original question: How do I get Windows Remote Desktop to work through the VPN from an off-site PC to a PC connected to the BR500 LAN?

        You can download Insight VPN Client (On Windows or MacOS) from NETGEAR download center.
        Here is the download link for Windows:
        https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/BR500/InsightVPNClient-install.exe

        Or you can download it from insight vpn user invitation email.

         

        Below is the steps to active insight vpn user:
        1.On netgear insight webportal, go to config the BR
        2.On Instant VPN Users page,add a VPN user

        3.After add the VPN user,VPN user will receive a email
        4.On the email,active the vpn user and download vpn client
        5.Install insight vpn client on Windows or MacOS,use the vpn user login.
        6.After vpn user login,can connect all insight vpn groups.
