CHAP authentication for PPPoe ISP setup

Hi there,

I have a FVS318N router,  the model wouldn't come up in the list above so putting it here in the post.

My ISP said the following and I can't seem to find anywhere that talks about CHAP in the PPPoE setup side of things:

"The connection type should be PPPoE and the authentication should be set to CHAP instead of Auto.  "

Does anyone know if that has to be changed and if so where it would be?

Thanks!

  • Hi there,   thanks for your message...   I maybe didn't provide enough detail in my message but what I was looking for was related to setting up the internet access with my ISP and not the VPN.

I did receive a private message later that said "FVS318N support CHAP and PAP authentication for PPPoE, don't need to configure it."  which I beleive is the correct answer.

I was having issues and the ISP was trying to help me out.  I will not be going with that ISP because i can't tell if it's a router issue or something else.

    Hello jaydel,

    Welcome to the community!

PPPoE option can be found on Network Configuration>WAN Settings>Broadband ISP Settings, see page 30 of the user manual. CHAP is a type authentication we use for VPN Clients or when using RADIUS, are you using RADIUS or VPN? Does the ISP use CHAP as authentication methods?

Let me know if this helps, looking forward to your response.

    Thanks,
