Need Upgrade recomendations

Once again, we are running into occasional speed/bandwidth issues on our network,

We have a home office with two power users, and then 3 kids, all Video users. Combine that with some VOIP, and some Webcams, and we have a busy network.

Currently our network looks like

FIOS 50/25 >> FVS336Gv2 >>GS116 >>> a few GS105's where we are short on ports
\ \ Netgear Access Point
\ \ LyncSys Access Point
\ NetGear NAS
\ VOIP #1
\ VOIP #2

We have about 25 devices hanging off the network in a combination of wired/wireless.

Most of our Wireless stuff is 2.4gz as we have an old masonry house and we need the penetration of the 2.4. We have two access points as the house is BIG, and masonry, so we needed two units to get the coverage.

Everything WORKS, but we occasionally get hiccups (Roku 'loading' or slow email refreshes, slow browsers)

Question: can the VFS336V2 keep up. I know what the throughput is, but are we pushing it with NAT and this much stuff?
Question #2 : What would be a good replacements for the Wifi Access Points?

  • 1. FVS336G is at the max on throughput but otherwise still should do job. Unless you are ready to upgrade to faster broadband above 50 then look for model that has more throughput.

    2. If currently working then I would leave it along. Most Wifi AP handles 25 devices on AP so if you are using too much on one AP I would add more to system to split the connection .

I personally use open-mesh products and uses 3 of in my 2500sq ft house to blast around. Works very well. open-mesh.com
