PR60X configured with dual WAN failover loses both connections every 2 hours

I have a PR60X with Metronet (T-Mobile) fiber (static IP) on WAN1 and Verizon Home Internet Lite (DHCP) on WAN2. Both connections are set to ping Google and Cloudflare DNS to determine online status. The router is not in Insight mode.

However, after about 2 hours, I can no longer ping external IPs, even though the PR60X shows it has an internet connection. The only solution has been to reboot the PR60X.

I'm running the latest firmware release. Any ideas?

  • Hi jdrch , Could you please follow this KB https://kb.netgear.com/000065831/How-do-I-enable-Secure-Diagnostics-Mode-on-my-Pro-Router to enable SDM, and PM SDM port number, we will check why Internet drops in about 2 hours. You may also do some sanity check: Is Verizon DHCP server lease time about 4 hours(that PR60X DHCP renewal happens in about 2 hours), when you could not ping external IP, was it from LAN device? Were you ping URL, or IP like 8.8.8.8? Can you ping from PR60X diagnostic page?

All my production PR60X with failover configured (and ugin DHCP on both WAN interfaces, deposit of the "static" (aka. fixed assigned public IPv4 addresses, the ISPs supplying the appropriate IP address either way here). Don't know is that has an impact (neither does using Insight, or here Netgear Engage):

Failure Detection Method is set to DNS lookup, using two well known DNS addresses here:

Best suggestion for troubleshooting assistance would be to contact Netgear Support via https://my.netgear.com/ or try to reach out to the ProAV Design Support team.

Thanks, I have the same Failure Detection Settings. However, based on your Dashboard Connectivity diagram it looks like you have Load Balancing enabled, which I don't.

On the first post [Edit] is top right on the cogwheel, on subsequent posts it's on the [...] menu.

Always post the effective firmware version as reference for the future readers please.

Neither show up for me. Even when I click the ... menu the only options are Copy Link, Follow, and Report. Affected firmware version is 2.7.0.111.

  • I don't seem to be able to edit my original post but to clarify, the router is in dual WAN failover mode with WAN1 being the primary connection. This problem wasn't happening before I set up the failover.
