Problems connecting to SQL server on Lan ( FVS318N)
Hi there,
I did install without problems my new FVS318N and everything seems to be working ok except the fact that none of the computers within the lan can connect to SQL server ( except the box hosting it obviously).
All other services are working just fine ( internet, file sharing, printer sharing...) so is just SQL that does not seem to work.
I did capture & analyse the traffic with wireshark and found this:
The box hosting it is called "SRVNEXUS" with IP 192.168.0.100.
Any thoughts or ideas would be really appreciated.
Thanks, Javier.

- Daedalus01AspirantDid you allow TCP/IP as an accepted protocol for communication on SRVNexus? When installed, its enabled by default. I found this out the hard way. At least its not on SQL 05/08. Check the firewall rules on the computer itself. If the computer is on a domain, do a gpupdate /force on computers hosting and accessing the SQL server and restart them. Is SQL in a cluster?
- atiktepikaAspirantHi Daedalus01,
Thanks for your prompt response.
TCP/IP its enabled and the windows firewall its disabled also none of the computers belong to a Domain but just a basic windows work group.
Until now I have been using just a normal hub and all the problems do appear when I swap it by the netgear firewall.
I'm a bit confused since everything else is working just fine also if I do replace the netgear firewall for my old hub everything works again.
Could it be an IP problem? My router IP is 192.168.1.1 , the netgear firewall is 192.168.0.2, I have tested deactivating NAT with the same result.
Cheers, J. - atiktepikaAspirantHi everybody,
Just a quick update, I did upgrade my firewall firmware to the lastest version: 4.1.1-8 but it did no difference and the problem remains the same.
Any other thoughts about what the problem can be?:(
Thanks, Javier. - fordemMentorIf the client computers and the system hosting the SQL server are all on the LAN side of the netgear, the problem is not caused by the netgear, but is more likely related to your ip addressing.
Second - you mention your router is at 192.168.1.1 and the netgear is at 192.168.0.2 - you obviously have two routers in the one network - this is a recipe for grief unless you have the network experience to properly configure your equipment - get rid of one. - atiktepikaAspirantHi Fordem,
Thanks for your reply.
Removing the default "netgear.com" domain from the lan settings has fixed the problem so I guess that was it.
Right now just trying to work out a possible DNS problem since only google seems to be working  but that would be a question for a different post if I can not work it out.
Thanks all for your ideas and thoughts
