WAC720 Captive Portal Problems

I'm currently trying to setup a Guest Network on my pair of WAC720s (both on firmware 3.5.12.0) that are managed using Ensemble. I have 3 SSIDs: "Office" secured using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK on VLAN 52, "Office_5G" secured using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK on VLAN 52, and "Guest" open on VLAN 59. I'm trying to put the Captive portal on the Guest SSID but I cannot get it to appear for users. I have a locale created for my instance with custom text. If I have the Captive Portal profile set to "Admin Mode" I am unable to do any network traffic (can't ping gateway) but if I turn off "Admin Mode" you can reach the gateway and the internet but the computer is never directed to the Captive Portal.

Any recommendations would be appreciated,
Thank you,

CJaques

  • DaneA,

Thank you for the reply and the welcome.

Your first question "Do you also have a captive portal configured on Office and Office_5G?  If yes, does same problem happen?" prompted me to try enabling Captive Portal on Office. It imediately worked. This showed promise so I played with the settings some more. Turns out that the problem was with the security setup between the VLANs on my Cisco Router (2921). I don't want computers connected to my Guest network (VLAN 59) to have access to the computers on my Office network (VLAN 52). Since the captive portal is hosted by the access points and IP addresses and management interfaces for the access points were on VLAN 52 anyone on VLAN 59 could not access them. I am working on settings now so that Guests can access the APs but nothing else.

    Thank you!

    Hi cjaques,

    Welcome to the community! :)

    a. Do you also have a captive portal configured on Office and Office_5G?  If yes, does same problem happen?

    b. Is there an error message that appears on the Guest users?  If yes, kindly post a screenshot or image of it.

    c. Have you tried to reboot the WAC720 and check if same problem will occur?

    d. Is the captive portal selected on the Guest WiFi security profile?

I look forward to your response.

    Regards,
