WAX214 signal not visible to wifi laptop

Just rec'd this item. Intend on using this access point to communicate with wifi surveillance cams around property.  I have it powered up, all lights ablaze... it's putting out the "config" signal, but my wifi capable laptop isn't seeing that signal, thus I can't begin the config process.

It's an older laptop...running windows 10....(it was upgraded from an earlier version.

Anyhow, the two of us here trying to get everything configured... our cell phones are picking up the AP's signal alright... along with a multitude of other signals from neighbors' wifi modems. The laptop is picking up all those same wifi signals, too... but not the one from the AP.  We've restarted the AP 2 or 3 times, restarted the laptop once.....in a vain attempt to get it to "see" the AP.

Everything here is running through a Arris Surfboard 6580 wifi modem. Sparklight internet service.
The laptop is connected to the modem it wirelessly, and this WAX214 is connected to that modem via ethernet cable.

I am not proficient at this stuff and am stumped, looking for a reason why the laptop isn't seeing the transmitted signal from the AP.  Maybe it has something to do with it's age.

  •   Well, it may just be my laptop. Had another persons' laptop brought in, and it is detecting the signal alright. Might have to use theirs to set it up.

Double check there is no magic toggle or switch to enable and disable WiFi. Airplane mode enabled probably?

What make and model is this laptop?

Click on the search icon, type, and select Device Manager.
      Select the Network adapters option.

no worries, this is a screenshot from a German Windows 10 system. Very similar on any language:

      Sometimes this helps:

Right-click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and select Update Drivers.
Select Search automatically for the updated driver software option on the window that pops up.
      Wait for it to install.
      Check your wireless connection.

Like schumaku says, check the driver version for the wireless card. But I wouldn't trust the one from microsofts update server.

I'd find out what one it is exactly and get it directly from the manufacturer as it tends to be newer.

But it does help to post back here which one it is.
