WAX610 Samba TCP Retransmissions

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased two WAX610 Access Points for my home. Currently, I am getting about 750 - 850 Mb/s up/down speeds over LAN. This is great! I have confirmed this via iperf3 and also via SAMBA when transferring files to my server.

However, in Wireshark I am seeing a large volume of TCP retransmissions when transferring over SAMBA or SFTP. About 7 - 10% of the traffic includes TCP retransmissions. These retransmissions do not occur when using my other Verizon wifi router. It is important to note I have the most recent firmware installed on the WAX - V10.7.5.3

I also see many TCP packets arriving out of order in Wireshark. This leads me to believe that maybe the WAX610's QoS settings are interfering with packet flow. This would make sense since file transfer protocols like FTP are queued in the lowest WMM queue according to the manual.

Does anybody else experience these TCP issues with SAMBA or SFTP on this device? I really like the WAX610 but I don't think that level of retransmissions is acceptable.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hard to imagine WMM will cause such an effect. Have seen issues on adapter, switchport, or cabling issues, much more likely than anything on the AP or the NAS, for example when Jumbo Frames are travelling an environment breaking up frames, leading to retransmission.

It’s quite bizarre. I tried using the AC adapter instead of my POE injector with no change. My cables all perform perfectly with iperf3 throughput testing. I also tried a 2.5 Mikrotik switch with the AP. The issue may lie with my virtualized SAMBA server. Strangely it is both WAX APs that show the issue. I’m scratching my head
