My Website Is Being Blocked by Netgear Router Security

Hi everyone, I run a small website and recently discovered that several visitors using Netgear routers can’t access it. When they try, they get a warning that the site is “blocked” or “unsafe.” Some said this happens with Netgear Armor enabled, while others mentioned Smart Parental Controls. The odd thing is my site loads fine on other networks and passes standard SSL/security checks.

I’ve double-checked everything on my end. The SSL certificate is valid, there’s no malware flagged by Google Safe Browsing, and my hosting provider confirmed there are no server-level issues. I also ran scans using multiple security tools, and everything came back clean. It really seems like Netgear’s security system is classifying my domain incorrectly.

The bigger problem is that I’m losing visitors because people assume the site isn’t safe. I tried submitting a false positive request through Bitdefender (since Netgear Armor uses their engine), but I haven’t received any response yet. In the meantime, I don’t know how to reassure my users who are being blocked.

I also noticed that the block happens inconsistently—sometimes only certain subpages are flagged, while the homepage loads fine. For example, my menu pages and coupon pages are often blocked while other sections are not. Could this be related to how scripts or external resources are being loaded on those pages?

Has anyone else here had experience with Netgear Armor or Parental Controls mistakenly blocking their website? Is there a way to whitelist a domain globally or request a faster reclassification through Netgear? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks for the quick reply! The main router that one of my visitors reported the issue on is the Netgear RAX45 Nighthawk AX6, and another user mentioned it happening with a different model as well (unfortunately I don’t have that exact one yet). I’m wondering if this might be a model-specific issue or something broader across routers running Netgear Armor/Parental Controls. Do you think sharing the exact firmware version would also help narrow it down? Should I share the site URL with you so that you can check and confirm if it's happening on your end?

PM is shorthand for Private Message.  This site opens for me with several browsers.  However, I do not have Armor or Smart Parental Controls enabled on my system.

Netgear Armor uses BitDefender technology.  I suggest using the BitDefender link checker: entering your website URLs and seeing what (if anything) it finds.

That should confirm whether Armor is the culprit (or not), and if it is blocking the site (or specific pages of the site) it should give you some more details on the reason.

If it is blocking your website for a reason you cannot fix, you could try contacting BitDefender Support here:

    You could then

    1. select the second "How To's ..." tile
    2. select "How To" in the "Issue Type" section
    3. select "Netgear Armor Powered by Bitdefender" as the product
    4. click "contact support"

Then you will see an "send us an email" option on the bottom right.  If you click on that, it will open up a contact form.

Note this is a user-to-user forum, and I don't work for Netgear (or BitDefender).  I don't know how BitDefender would respond.  FWIW, I do not have Armor or parental controls enabled on my router.
