Issue: Can't Connect Unmanaged Switch to MR60

Have read all past discussions about this but couldn't find a confirmed solution.

Here are my hardware:

Cable Modem: MT7711 24X8 Cable Modem

Two unmanaged switches:

  • Trendnet TEG-S80g
  • Netgear ProSafe GS108

The cable modem has 4 LAN ports. MR60 is connected to one of the ports. All WIFI device connected to MR60 network work well.

MR60 firmware version: V1.1.7.132_2.0.64

When I connect switches to the cable modem LAN ports, wired connections are good. But when I connect the switch to the Ethernet port of MR60, no wired connection can be established.

Is there any step or configuration change I should take? TIA.

  • The MT7711 is a modem/router combo device. And going router----router causes a double nat unless setup properly.

IT doesn't always cause issues but when it does, then you need to fix the double nat.

A double nat happens when you cascade more than 1 router.

Fixes? There’s 3 options but only use 1.
    1. Put the modem/gateway in modem only/pass through mode. This disables its routing functions.
    2. Leave the modem/gateway in router mode but put the Netgears IP address into its DMZ. This forwards the data to the netgear. You can either leave the modem/gateway’s wireless enabled or disabled. Just make sure its using a different wifi channel to prevent interference
    3. Put the Netgear into access point mode. This disables its routing functions. Wifi/ethernet still works but it does disable some features.

What is the Brand of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router and switch. CAT6 is recommended.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router and swtich been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

I currently have my MK63 (router mode, v.132) set up behind my CAX80 cable modem, though it's in router mode so i'm double NAT'd. The MR is connected to my GS108, also a GS308 works. LAN port #8 on the GS switch is used from the LAN Port on the MR. This wired PC is connected to LAN port #1 on the GS108. I also have my MS ethernet net connected to the GS as well. Both are synced and running fine.

        Thanks for the instruction.

I've been talking with Xfinity several times and they do not offer fixed IP service. So I can't put the cable modem in pass through mode.

I do think it's the right solution though.

    Any updates on this?

Mines working going on over 2 days with a GS-108 switch connected behind the MR.
