Have you tried doing a factory reset on the device? Its always a good idea to do a reset after a firmware update. Especially if there's been a lot of changes. This is the manual. Page 182 walks you through the factory reset.

Let me know if this works or not. If not, we'll try other steps.
- TweenageAspirantok have tried that , it’s taken an age to get to the log in page , it’s now showing 214.26 Download and 8.80 upload , so I’ve accepted them , now moved on to set up WiFi , which I’ve left as Is , now got it as far as dumaos screen
- TweenageAspirantHave tried connecting to the normal Netgear 47 and the 5g version and neither are working wirelessly

Solid white. The Internet connection is ready.
Flashing does indicate activity/traffic.

WiFi Solid white. The 5 GHz WiFi radio is operating.
Blinking white. The router is sending or receiving WiFi traffic

Solid amber. The router detected a 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps link with a powered-on
device.
Blinking amber. The port is sending or receiving traffic at 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps. Please check the nice documentation - there is a description of all LEDs. https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/XR500/XR500_UM_EN.pdf p.11 ff.
Nothing of all that does indicate a problem.

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?

Modem Combo Units:
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem.I suggest trying option #2...

Ask your ISP if you need help and information regarding the modem configuration. If the modem doesn't support bridge mode, try option #2 with the DMZ or IP-Passthru on the modem.
Good Luck.
