Basically it randomly is unable to “ping” the server

I am having the exact same issues that bodger47 is having. Basically it randomly is unable to “ping” the server. I’ve done a hard reset on my system to original default settings. Re-installed my orbi system only to experience the same issues. I have a cheap tp-link router also connected to my provider and there are no issues with that router. It’s very frustrating to say the least.

What makes it even worse, is netgear doesn’t have a product upgrade program. I would just upgrade my system right now to rid myself of this problem if I got like 50% off a new system with the return/upgrade of my current system.

  • What makes this even more annoying is that just to submit this reply, I had to disconnect from my wifi and send over cellular. So frustrating

  • What model Orbi system do you have?

What server are you trying to ping?

What devices are you using to connect and ping?

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

Happens with IPv6 enabled or disabled on the RBR?

Happens using ISP DNS or custom DNS?

CAT6A is wired thru the entire house.

And the internet works fine until it doesn’t. Started about a week ago where the internet randomly cuts out.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router and satellite(s) been performed?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
      Turn off and unplug modem.
      Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

      How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

  • I’ve had two Orbi systems since 2017 and never had an issue until the past week or so. When my service provider said that the router seems to be the issue I was very sceptical, but it definitely seems to be the problem.

Is the TP-Link router connected to the ISP at the same time as the Orbi 840 router?

    Does "Ping the server" mean.....

    • Ping the RBR840 router from a device connected to the RBR840 LAN?, or
    • Ping some other device (server) from a device (connected to what)?
