Can’t get to advanced settings Orbi RBK763

I need to set my Orbi up using my provider’s PPPOE settings (IINET). I also need to change the Bridge/VLAN settings.

Using the Orbi app, I can get as far as adding the PPPOE user name and password but have no access to advanced settings.

Supposedly if I use orbilogin.com, or the direct router address, this should give me a login prompt and then allow me to access advanced settings, but I don’t get a login screen as the setup wizard immediately kicks in. This doesn’t allow me to choose any other option other than giving it the old MAC address (which doesn’t work.)

Any advice gratefully received!

Correct, the Orbi 'app' provides the most basic capabilities required by most users to get the system working.  It provides no access to "advanced" features.

If connecting to the web interface results in the setup wizard, that would seem to indicate that  the Orbi 'app' did not finish setting up the system.

It might be a more productive process to do a Factory Reset on the router (to clear out anything that the 'app' may have done) and start over with the web interface, as shown on page 24 of the User Manual:

    https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK763S/RBR760_RBS760_UM_EN.pdf

    Factory Reset is described here:

    https://kb.netgear.com/31486/How-do-I-reset-my-Orbi-system-to-factory-default-settings

Once an Orbi is factory reset, the web credentials are "admin" and "password" (no capital letters).

Substituting the MAC address of the previous system is a method of dealing with an ISP that sets their equipment to work with a specific hardware MAC address which can only be changed by their technical support staff.  Using that MAC address rather than the actual hardware MAC address allows customers to avoid dealing with that process.  My guess is that PPPoE connections requiring user login do not create that sort of situation.

  • Thank you both! With these and help from online support I managed to get into all the settings and adjust them correctly. Currently still having trouble actually connecting to the internets so had to go back to my old router. Will try plugging it all back together and restarting it all later and see if I can get through the next vital step!

    Thanks again 🤞

Eventually got it all set up. Just had to factory reset the Orbi multiple times and eventually it actually accepted the adjusted settings.

Technically wasn’t difficult; the main problem was that it is all so automated and reliant on the app that there’s very little info if you need to get into the deeper settings. With help from you all and tech support I got there in the end, but I am not techy at all. For anyone expecting plug and play and not comfortable clicking around, this would have been VERY frustrating.

        Anyway, thanks everyone!!!
