My RBR850 has an unstable guest network

My RBR850 has an unstable guest network.

The firmware is V7.2.8.2. In addition to the router, I also have 3 satellites.

The firmware updates automatically, however, I see version v.7.2.8.5 on the internet.

I have performed the update on the RBR850 but cannot update the RBS850.

Could this resolve the unstable guest network?

Or is there something else going on?

My regular network works just fine.

You need to update the RBS first, then RBR lastly. RBR and RBS needs to be on same FW verison. Probably why guest network maybe problematic.
Besure your applying the RBS CHK file to the RBS web page to update them.

Follow this guide to help you get the system updated:

Recommend doing a full on factory reset and setup from scratch:

Should resolve guest network issues after all this completes...

Was the Guest WiFi network unstable before the router firmware was updated?

Getting all of the units on the same firmware release (either the previous version or the latest version) is definitely worth achieving.

It might be useful to understand what you mean by "unstable".

  • The Guest Wifi was unstable before the firmware update.

I manage to update my RBR and RBS to v.7.2.8.5.

I have synchronized all my updates, RBR and RBS, but the unstable guest Wi-Fi network remains.

    My main network works perfectly.

The performance of my Guest-Wifi is 50% slower then my Normal Wifi.

Sometimes my guest Wi-Fi network even stops working.

What channels are you using on the RBR? Try 1 and 40 or 11 and 48?

What devices are connected on the guest network?

Guest Network won't be as high performing as the main WLAN. Due to the temporary nature of transient devices on Guest Networks, just enough service to get users internet services would be seen on the guest network. May not be high performing.

Recommend doing a full on factory reset and setup from scratch.

    Hello eansys ,

    Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

I understand that you have been having issues with your RBR850 guest network stability. Stability issues may be linked to using a wireless band that is not compatible with your end user devices. To mitigate the stability issues on your guest network, change your guest network password encryption settings to WPA2-PSK [AES].

    Best,

    Kevin
