RBR750 - FTTP installed

Team, I have just had FTTP installed. My previous connection with TPG ran through an older TPG modem then into my Orbi system. With my new connection I am trying to connect my Orbi directly to the fiber through an ethernet cable. I can see the Orbi in my phone etc but it is showing "connected without internet". I cannot figure out how to progress this and feel the app is sending me around in circles. I have attempted to update PPPOE but not having any luck.

Help please.

The PPPoE credentials for the fiber connection may be different than credentials for the modem connection.  What does TPG say about connecting to fiber?

p.s. many of us "old fogies" find the Orbi 'app' not as straightforward to use as the web interface.

  • Thanks for the prompt response. I have not really pressed TPG as yet as the unit is providing the signal etc they will just advise everything on their end is working. I want to use the web interface but have struggled to get in?? Due to the fact I can see the wifi availability in my devices etc I think it is an Orbi settings issue ??

Exactly.  An Orbi system will function with no internet connection at all.  (not very useful for most people, but we had an interesting case where an Orbi system was set up in a mobile hospital out in the jungle and used to manage communications within the facility).  The message "no internet" indicates that the router is not actually connected to the TPG network.

I would call TPG and tell them, "I migrated from a modem to FTTP but my router no longer connects.  Does FTTP use the same connection method and credentials as my modem did?"

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Ask the ISP if you should be using DHCP or PPPoE.

    Disable IPv6 on the RBR.

Is the phone the only device not getting internet?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem/ONT and router and satellite(s) been performed?

If your ISP Modem or ONT already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,

    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.

    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.

    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

    Try option #2 first...
