RBR850 VPN stopping traffic for Appen.com
Firmware Version
V7.2.6.31_5.0.24
I have started doing some gig work for Appen.com and I am continually getting a warning:
when I attempt to start a job.
I get this also on my laptop, on which I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04.1.
However, If I bypass the ORBI router, and connect the laptop directly to my fiber modem, there is no problem.
The VPN Service is off on the router.
What is going on???

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router and satellite(s) been performed?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.- CrimpOnGuru - Experienced User
By any chance is Bitdefender Armor enabled on this system?

p.s. The VPN feature that Netgear includes in home routers allows the user to set up a VPN Host on the router so that users can access their home LAN when away by opening a VPN tunnel through the internet to their home router. That is not what the Appen software is complaining about.

This is the FO modem:
I followed your suggestions on stopping/waiting/restarting modem/NG router/PCs.
I have nearly 50 items on my network - PCs, cameras, Fire & Cast dongle TVs, etc.
Home is well connected...
No problem with any thing else. I do have a very good modem -> router cable.
Just trying to get these computers (W10, W11, Ubuntu) to Appen without the VPN warning.
The W11 (and Ubuntu) are fresh installs without any AV (Bitdefender, etc) or Anti-malware having been installed.'
On W11, just good ole Defender.
On Ubuntu, whatever comes native with it.
Still gives the VPN warning on the Appen job page...
Re CrimpOn - are you referring to BitDefender Armor on the PC? I can't find anything in ORBI's webpage relating to same under Basic or Advanced...
I have another question - When I connected the Ubuntu laptop directly to the modem, everything worked well.
However, when attempting the same with my W11Pro PC, It would NOT get an address from the modem. I tried (in Admin mode) the ipconfig /release, /flushdns, /renew.
Also > netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset.
The W11 just would not get an address from the modem; Ubuntu - no problem. Hence I could see that the VPN warning message is related to the NG Router.

I did not realize that Security was NOT enabled - I don't know where to turn/off.
