Issue with various apps on android devices

Since upgrading to the 870 mesh system various apps on my wife's android phone aren't loading. Everything is fine on iOS devices but apps such and the BBC News app are failing to load on the android phone. I really don't understand what's causing this as it seems to only affect android devices. Has anyone found a solution to this?

  • Disable ipv6 in router. Those app are looking for ipv6 and the router stops passing traffic with it on android devices randomly. Its a known problem. Usually turning wifi on and off on the phone gets it working again for a bit. That is till it stops working again. I have had the same issue for months on my 770 system. 870 has same issue. The only other thing you can do is download the warp app from cloudflare off the android store. The vpn will make ipv6 work even if your ISP doesnt support it but I have noticed the dl speeds are not as fast as without it.  Right now I just have ipv6 disabled myself till netgear figures out ipv6.

I have had this same issue for a couple years across several FW versions. I upgraded FW months ago, currently on 7.2.7.15 and have the same exact issue. It is absolutely maddening that netgear can’t handle network devices. The amount of time it takes to get this stuff back online is rediculous. I am currently running between 86 and 96 devices online at any given time. On a reboot it can’t reassign the IPs completely leaving many offline for days requiring yet another reboot, again, and again, and again until finally everything takes. And after doing some reading it appears newer routers like the 960 do the same thing with lots of devices. Next step is trash and buying another brand. Please help fix this

Dws62001 To avoid these issues the only solution I have found is to disable DHCP in the Netgear altogether and running another computer with a DHCP server (in my case ISC DHCP on a Raspberry Pi). Never looked back.

What modem/gateway is the router connected to?

are you using IPv6? or is it disabled?

Did you try StephenB DNS recommendation? If you do and you have IPv6 enabled, make sure that you change the IPv6 DNS servers as well. (or just disable IPv6, we've seen tons of issues with some ISP's)

Router is connected directly to the fibre ONT. already on cloudflare DNS. IPv6 also on them. Haven’t tried disabling IPv6 yet. Will give that a go later.

    Just to clarify this -

    1. These apps all load when the phone is not connected to the 870 wifi, but all fail to load when connected?
    2. Are there any apps that work correctly?  Email, Chrome, etc?

      1. Yes, all apps load fine when not connected to the Orbi wifi
      2. Yes, some apps seem ok and the problem with certain apps is intermittent, they will work sometimes when connected to the Orbi but will fail to load at other times.

Do you use mac address admission control?  Or have Armor or parental controls turned on?
