RBE 371 wifi speeds

I was using a Orbi RBR40, I set up my new RBE371 with two sats and set up was easy. I have Spectrum gig internet. I got a slight bump (300mps to 430mps) in download speed, upload is about 40 now as opposed to 10 previously.

Orbi app says the router is running at or over a gig coming in. Spectrum app says the modem is receiving a gig or more speed.

Wifi is not near those speeds. I know I can connect to ethernet and probably attain a gig, and I may never see a gig over wifi, but I should be closer than 400mps right?

For this test I'm using a 15" MacBook Pro 2018.

Orbi firmware is v12.1.2.7

Are there router settings I should check to obtain faster speeds?

How can I tell what speed the receiving WiFi is capable of achieving? (I don't doubt that some of the things connected wirelessly to my router are older and may not be able to transmit at a gig)

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Mike

MacBook Pro 2018 specs can be found here:

5GHz WiFi 802.11ac (WiFi5) is capable of 400+ Mbps speed.  WiFi speed varies dramatically with distance between WiFi access point and mobile device.  When you eventually upgrade to a newer MacBook, the speed will increase dramatically.

What is the ethernet test speeds on the Mac Book Pro? You should see near or just over 900Mpbs over the wire.

Is the MBP connected near or at the RBR when speed testing? Turn OFF the RBS to check this.

Make sure the MBP is connecting at 5Ghz. However at most, You may see or should see around 300-700Mpbs depending on conditions and such. I have seen near 700Mbps or just over with same MBP I have on a AX system in history. The MBP is only AC supporing so anywhere around 500-600Mpbs max realistic speeds will be about the limit.

What OSX version is on the MBP?

What channels are you using? I use 1 and 40 here most of the time.

Thanks for the response. Ethernet speed is terrible. May be caused by a switch I'm using, I'll upgrade that tomorrow and recheck.

MacBook is about 7 feet from the RBE371.

      MBP is running 15.6.1

WiFi is a mixed 2.4 and 5mhz to allow for some devices that are not 5mhz.

WiFi is running at 300mbps, so it sounds like I can reasonably expect more speed over wifi.

Channels are currently set to auto, 2.4ghz is channel 4, 5ghz is channel 36.

speed test on the router using the orbital app is 1155Mbps download.

I can switch the channels but is there a way I can tell which channels have the least traffic?

What brand and model# switch do you have?

Ya 7 feet the MBP should see around that speed or maybe a bit more on 5Ghz. I use channel 40 here. WiFi will be always variable due to client side support and design, environment and conditions. Ethernet should be near 900mpbs on a 1Gb though thru the RBR. Test your MPB directy connected to the RBR with out a switch to compare.

Use a wifi analyzer to see what channels are most open or not used by your neighbors. Channels 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40, 44, and 48 on 5Ghz. I believe you may use higher channels on 5Ghz on the 370 series.
