Jun 17, 2020RAX40 Firmware 1.0.3.80 Crash/Bug Log
Hello folks, can everyone please log all the issues they are experiencing with the RAX40 router on 1.0.3.80 firmware under this thread, I see there are several threads going on about the issue, figured if we collect them all under one location, Netgear may take a look at the issues?
My issue are;
- The firmware broke the connectivity with the EAX20 WiFi Extender, extender can not connect to the router
- Same situation doesn't exist with EX7500 Router
- With Smart Connect I experience some wifi connection drops with mobile devices.

- having the same issue.
Updated the firmware last night and no wireless connections. I have wired connection but I cannot connect wireless. The update messed everything up. Horrible - Still same issues with a rollback. I really can’t believe how awful this is. Went through level 2 tech support. Company stands behind their products a whole ninety days! Lol. The software for this RAX 40/35 is a mess. I wish we could get refunds. This is a joke. Lost a customer for life.
- Same here

very disappoint with netgear. they should TAKE DOWN this defective firmware that is causing wifi drop. they don't because they want people to contact them and charge them for simple reverting back. take the firmware down and issue a new one once is fixed....very bad service netgear....
- IndrajitGuideAgreed. Silence from Netgear should not be an option. I would not purchase any of their products if it’s not resolved. Thanks community.

Reveted to 62 no luck.
Reset to Factory settings, no luck.
Went back to my little old Trendnet, no problems now.
Whish I nevee spent so much on this device, at least it was on a Black Friday sale.
Can't disable coexistence because my BluRay uses the 20Mhz network and my other devices use the 40.
ok, what i learned is to download the older firmware version from Netgear website, look for the older version
V1.03.64_101 and go into the Admin settings of the route and update firmware manually.
After i did that everything works again back to normal. It tooks me a few days of playing with setting and resets, but today i downloaded and tried the older version and it works
give it a try. Also turn off auto updates so it doesnt happen again, and hopefully another update will come out
stay away from 3.80 version

I would like to receive support comments on troubleshooting described here and the release of a new firmware with bug fixes

Picked up this router a while back to use as an additional simple access point. Updated the firmware to 1.0.3.80 and then configured it to serve both regular and guest wifi signals on 2.4 & 5ghz. Having the same issue I've seen lots of threads about, after a while the router stops responding and all my connections drop. The first few times seemed to be about 8hrs apart. After that I fiddled with firmware changes and had a few days stable until it crashed.
For a few of the crashes I've taken UART console logs. Seems to be an issue with the firmware. The firmware hits some kind of error condition and the router ends up in a loop which can only be fixed by a power reset. A few samples from the UART console:First sample (error snippet only, I have a full log available though):

Maybe this will help netgear determine the what the issue is and get it fixed in the next update. I can provide more information upon request if it'll be helpful.
- Good info for netgear but I doubt they really care. They will just roll out a newer router and forget the ones who purchased the older routers, less support and obviously not fixing the issue after 1 month now. Even within the last few weeks netgear has 79 routers with security flaws. I am just going buying different brand for now on. Email support they can careless. The answer you get is roll it back. Meanwhile we are open to security vulnerabilities and we can't update.

Today I read an article that the model of the RAX40 router has serious security problems. I hope the developers in the next firmware will take into account all the comments on the work of RAX40
For me is RAX40 really unstable. It connect and disconnect all time with LAN, 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz on Firmware 1.0.3.80.
And I have noticed behavior of 5Ghz. I choose a wifi channel, but the router always go back to channel 36 even if this is the worst channel. I belive it crash, becuse I can see channel numbers av changed in Wireless Settings (5GHz)
Before crash
After some days
- MaxgurGuide
When will the firmware update come out with the removal of comments?
- benoit_frApprentice
FYI, like a lot of us, I had serious stability problems.
No issues for 2 days and then wifi breaks for all the home devices. Ethernet was stable.
It happened 3 times in the week.
Checked and modified my Wifi settings stable for a couple of weeks :
Disabling Smart Connect and having the same SSID for 2.4 and 5ghz
Disabling Mix mode WPA2/WPA3 and using only WPA2 AES
Just FYI.
Hope we will have soon a good firmware....
- kvik369Guide
So is your router still stable or has the issues resurfaced?
- MaxgurGuide
The problems remain. At a frequency of 5 GHz, the channel is reset to 36. Sometimes, communication with devices connected at a frequency of 5 GHz disappears. I can not connect to the hard drive that is connected to the router. I hope that they will fix the problems in the new firmware ...
So just updated the firmware and now cannot connect to the router with the app or via a browser. My 2.4 network is showing but nothing can connect to it using the correct passcode. I have no idea how to "roll back" the firmaware, especially when I cannot connect to the modem at all. Why in the world would you allow this piece of crap out into the world completely untested?
Forgot to mention that after the update I got the red flashing "firmware corrupt" error that appeared to have resolved itself after a restart.
- Same for me.
- benoit_frApprentice
Hello all,
Here is a quick update following multiple failures right after the latest FW update.
- I disabled Smart Connect. I am using (like with previous FW, the same SSIDs for 2.4 and 5ghz)
- I disabled Mix mode WPA2/WPA3 and using only WPA2 AES
3 weeks without any issues.
Hope this help. I stick with the latest FW without any new FW "benefits"...
Best

as a precision : 4 ethernet devices and 22 wifi permanent devices at home...
- Cool. I gave up. Get firmware corrupt red light then reboot. Then works 12 hours. I ordered a premium expensive router from another brand. I’m fed up. Netgear is a shell of their past
- I downgraded to 64 after my first spate of problems w 80. Never looked back as I’m running fine w 64. I’ll give the next release a looksee when it comes out, but have no interest in dealing w 80 at this point.
