AC1750 (r6400) No internet connection through CM500 (xfinity)
I had a comcast tech unsuccessfully install my hardware. After an hour on the phone w/ tech support I have internet access(with annoying connectivity issues) when my laptop is directly wired to the modem (it was a DNS issue). However, when i connect the router to the modem it isn't able to establish an internet connection. I'm not able to resolve any domains or ping outside my network.
i've gone through the router setup multiple times. I've tried manually setting the DNS. The issue exists if i'm wired or wireless. I've confirmed that the router is assigning addresses to all connected devices. I've done a factory reset. Comcast tech support is utterly confused and is now saying it isn't something they can help with. any thoughts?

Hello idiotbox37
The DNS is pushed out through comcast servers have you tried to change the DNS on the router and your devices to googles dns?

i did try manually setting the DNS to comcast servers and then google dns but that didn't work. I found another forum thread that suggested having the router clone the PC's MAC but that didn't work. I decided to try "turning it off and on again" and i found netgear's suggested power cycle instructions. I tried it a few times and it didn't work. AND THEN, i tried it again, and all lights lit. I have no idea what happened. i don't know if comcast pushes dns settings periodically and the last time just happened to sync w/ their push? The dns issue did seem to be between the router and modem but i was having serious latency issues when wired directly to the modem so the connection through comcast wasn't healthy either. I've been stable since. good bandwidth and low latency. I don't know what will happen if i ever have a power outage haha. Thanks for the suggestion, DarrenM.

Tried to ping DNS? You mean default DNS is not working? Tried different browser?
Tried different DNS like 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 ?

i did manually set the DNS to the Comcast addresses (75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76) as well as the google dns address you listed. ping would time out if i tried something outside my network. No difference in MS Edge or Chrome browsers. DNS lookups w/ nslookup failed as well.
My access is working after i power cycled the hardware multple times.

If you can connect PC directly to the modem and try if samething happens. If it does it must be modem problem.
