Activation Experience with CM1000 and Medicom Cable
Mediacom has a recommended modems list Customer Owned Compatible Modems Despite my probems using a C3700 modem/router, I decided, if this DOCSIS 3.1 modem was good enough for Mediacom, it would be good enough for me. Additional considerations included Comcast/Xfinity/Cox Cable support, since there is the possibility of moving into their service areas in the future.
Purchase and delivery went well (www.newegg.com) arriving with firmware version: V2.01.15.
When I started an internet chat with Mediacom support, they only needed two things:
1. The modem connected for approximately 1/2 hour.
2. The modem's MAC address, and proof I was a customer.
On a Saturday morning, I plugged the modem for the requested 1/2 hour, and I called (since I had no Internet access) and gave them my MAC address, along with my customer information, and lo and behold I was connected. My laptop, plugged into the ethernet port in the modem, was on the Internet. It probably wasn't instantaneous, but it only took about 20 minutes.
Over the next three days, I had many problems with remaining connected to the internet. Testing connections, cables, software, got me to the point where it was either the modem, or the service to the house. Outages were erratic. Rebooting the modem, usually, not always fixed the problem. Several times, it required several reboots before connecting. After about 3 days, things seemed to settle down.
In reading other posts across the internet, it seems the cable company (CMTS) has the access in order to upload new firmware. I do not have that capability. This information is also posted in the Netgear site for the CM1000.
What I don't like:
1. Only access to information is via the web interface, which is VERY limited. Just the channels and related, my serial number, MAC address, and password changing.
2. No SNMP access. If it isn't on the web page, I can't find the information. Like how long has it been up? How long has it been connected to the CMTS/Internet?
3. Web page refresh is slower than I would expect for an "ultra-high speed cable modem ready for today’s service plans and future upgrades" modem.
4. I can not reboot the modem, from the web page. This really annoys me.
What I do like:
1. After the settling in period, it works.

I get to withdraw #4. Color me oblivious. Advanced Home Cable Information, bottom right.

>> yes, since this is a modem, there is nothing much to configure. If it were C7800 D3.1, there are lot of GW options to configure.

>> SNMP access from LAN side is not allowed by MSOs. even if we allowed it, MSOs will block it using their config files.

I have 2 problems, that continue to perplex me.
1.The modem disconnects from the Internet at odd times during the last two weeks, and is now not connecting to my router. Finally got a connection just to my laptop to enter this update.
2. Continuing to see high correctable/uncorrectable errors on Channel ID 1, even shortly after a reboot.
Rebooted device today (MANY times) because I lost my LAN connection to my router. So I took the router out of the equation and connected directly to my laptop. After numerous reboots of the CM1000 and my laptop, I am finally able to get to the Internet and post this followup. No changes to router programming. "Can't" change settings on the modem. I'm not going to mess with the Starting Frequency.
Then, checking on the modem's status the errors continue to concern me, because the correctables/uncorrectables are so high on Channel 1, already, after about 15-30 minutes of connect time, when all the others are at 0. This is not a just happened today concern. It has been like this when I had a C3700 installed. The cable company (Mediacom) had been out and replaced several splitters and lengths of cable inside the house. It didn't get better so I bought the CM1000.
