CAX30 - 2.4 wifi bad /5ghz good?

Not sure what's going on but all of a sudden the router won't allow connection via wifi 2.4 but does connect on 5 ghz.

Reset the router to factory specs - I'm using xfinity service

On several devices (phones, computers) - I told the devices to forget the 2.4 connection - upon refresh the 2.4 connection doesn't show anymore but the 5 Ghz is available and allows connection. Unfortunately my Ring Security system works only on 2.4 ghz among other older devices I have and without a 2.4 connection leaves many devices useless.

I went to total reset to factory specs to make sure no other settings were interfering with the 2.4 radio. Upon restart and even though the 2.4.light on the modem is flickering as it normally does there was no mention of my 2.4 connection on any of my devices - only the 5ghz showed and allowed connections.

Running Firmware Version V2.2.4.2  The modem/router has been working properly for months using this firmware. I would think that reverting to an earlier firmware wouldn't  change things since a factory reset didn't change anything.

Thoughts?

    One "box to check":

2.4G WiFi is limited to channels 1-11 in some countries, with 12 & 13 available in others.  If the router has changed to channel 12 or 13 because "look. there's nobody using this one!", then devices searching on channels 1-11 will no longer detect the signal.

  • The only options are Channels 1-11.

I manually selected each channel with no change. I think it's more than a channel / interference issue.

During my testing I noticed that sometimes my 2.4 SSID shows up and sometimes it doesn't. When it shows up I try to connect to it and I get the message -can't connect to the network. I'll do the "forget the network" routine and reboot the modem/router and the laptop and try the process again. Sometimes it shows up, I connect to it and it works for maybe 30-40 seconds and then disappears. The 5 ghz side works perfectly. but the 5 ghz side seems much slower than the 2.4 side.

I'm leaning towards a faulty sporadic 2.4 transmitter issue. Anyway to test that?

Perhaps confirm that the network is gone using a wifi analyzer app?

I confirmed the network is up/down using the graphing component of a wifi scan but it seems this forum doesn't allow images, even low res to be attached or included. It keeps saying try later.

You may want to contact NG support and ask what your options are if the unit seems to be failing.
