cm500
I have a cm500 modem and wndr3400v3 router. Several times a week, the dns drops and I have to reset the modem and router to reconnect. I cannot find a solution except to replace my equipment to another brand. Is this company so inept that my internet provider blames netgear? Send me a fix or I am going to have to replace this junk with another brand. Covid brains? Thanks for wasting my money.

Does the modem or router drop connections?
Would be hard to tell what kind of fix would be needed if we don't have more information.
Check the modem first with a wired PC.
Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status page.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

https://www.duckware.com/tech/solving-intermittent-cable-modem-issues.htmlYour router you're using is over 10 years old and WAY out dated and probably not safe or secure to use. You may want to consider updating to to something this generation? Would be one fix that would be helpful.

This is the default response by Internet service providers. They don't understand what us going on so they pass the buck.

The WNDR3400v3 router is, as FURRYe38 says, kind of old. Your version dates from 2014, but the first version is from 2010. As well as the security issues, it has slow LAN ports.,
According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware. This may not matter to you, but be warned that it will hobble you if you ever sign up for faster Internet. It also slows down whatever is going on in your local network. Newer devices support 1000BASE-TX.
Your CM500 modem is certainly faster than your router. So it can support Internet speeds well above anything that your WNDR3400v3 is up to.
Send me a fix or I am going to have to replace this junk with another brand. Covid brains? Thanks for wasting my money. The fix is for you to move into the 2020s.
A router that lasted a decade or more, that seems like pretty good value for money.
As to "Covid brains", let's hope you recover soon.

I purchased the modem and router 2 years ago and purchased the 10/100 router because the built in cat is only 10/100. (lan, not wireless) No use in purchasing something faster. I believe it is the modem that loses dns connection, although I reset the router as well. So, what everyone is saying, I did buy garbage equipment. There should be no reason that I should lose dns connection no matter what the speed. My internet plan is only at 50. I am evaluating buying a pci ex 100/1000 network adapter and a new modem and router. Just wanted to see if there was a fix. Obviously not. Never again netgear. I also had the signal evaluated by the network provider. How else would the provider explain trash equipment?

Before placing blame or false claims on bad equipment, I'd have the ISP check the coax signal line up to the modem. Though your power is moderately in spec, is kind low. And you have some correct and uncorrectables. They should most be all zeros.
Some checking on the coax line for good quality coax, splitters and bad jacks can cause problems for ANY modem. Even your next one. So do your self a favor first and make sure and have the ISP make sure the signal up to the modem is of good quality and working well.
If it's garbage IN, you'll get garbage out on ANY Modem.
I've had several NG modems and all have worked well. Even a CM700.
Do a bit more checking on the ISP side and cabling before claiming it's a equipment problem. Otherwise, even your next purchase may see problems as well.
Good Luck.

What actually happens when you experience this?
How do you know that the modem "loses dns connection". There isn't a "DNS light" on the things to tell you that.
If this is a reference to "Dynamic DNS", rather than the ISP's Domain Name Server, which one and what are you using it for?
So, what are the symptoms an what does happens to the LEDs on the devices?

You haven't provided enough information for anyone to begin to diagnose what is happening and what any "fix" might be.
We don't even know such basic detail as the firmware version on your router.let alone what makes you think that it has something to do with DNS.

Obviously, you haven't read the previous posts concerning this matter.... you must work for netgear. lol
