DNS Handling on a Netgear C6300 over IPv4 & IPv6

Hello community,

I'm running the Netgear C6300 on Comcast with the latest firmware version (V2.01.14).

I discovered quite some time ago that my DNS queries were misbehaving and decided to look into it.  After a long roundabout query going everywhere from Comcast DNSSEC to business support to the FCC and back, we finally got to the crux of the issue: Comcast hijacks all port 53 DNS traffic which attempts to travel over IPv4, and redirects it to their own IPv6 DNS servers, resulting in inconsistent performance, and inaccurate results (for those queries which are intended to go elsewhere).  As I mentioned above, I did open a case with the FCC for this being an instance of hijacking traffic illegally, but Comcast closed my support case after determining my device (Netgear C6300) did not support IPv6 LAN networking in order to provide IPv6 DNS servers to my home devices.  However, in both Comcast's documentation (http://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/) and Netgear's detailed spec sheet, the C6300 is touted as supporting IPv6.

I simply see no truth to this anywhere within the modem's configuration settings.  No options.  Nothing to configure.  No switches, no information, only DHCP received from Comcast which is only visible in summary screens.

As a result, anything I attempt to send over IPv6 without defining hosts or DNS servers explicitly within every single device essentially gets hijacked and sent whereever Comcast sees fit.

My question is simply this: can we get Netgear to release a firmware update allowing control over IPv6 IP, DHCP, and DNS settings within the modem?  Without these settings, this device doesn't fully support IPv6 networking - its only minimally "compatible".  Is there someone we can talk to, or another avenue which could be pursued?

    Hello ixit

The process with releasing firmware with cable modems is different than releasing firmware for other products. When Netgear puts out a firmware for a cable modem they first have to send it to the ISP and they make changes and approve it  and then  push the firmware out themselves to all modems. So what your asking may not be able to be done if Comcast is making it so you can not change those settings.
