Multiple Public IP Addresses with CM700 and Comcast XFinity

I have Comcast Xfinity and a CM700. I want to get multiple (two) public addresses so that I can bind each one to a different router/firewall. Comcast says I have to change a setting in the CM700 to do this. Trying to find out if the CM700 supports it and if so how to make the change.

  • They should be able to attach 2 modems to your account and then assign each one a IP address no setting would need changed in the modem.

  • Am I asking something that is overly simple and documented somewhere? Or is this not possible? Comcast Xfinity is telling me I can have more than one Public IP and if I was running their modem they'd make the change but using the NetGear CM700 I have to make a setting change myself.

I finally did get this answer from Xfinity. You basically need a cable modem for every public IP you want to use.
