Nighthawk x4s C7800 w slow speeds from Xfinity Gigabit
Hello!
I've had my C7800 for a little over a year with Xfinity Gigabit as my ISP. When I first got it, I was getting wired connections around 800+ Mbps, 5Ghz WiFi at 400+ Mbps, and 2.4 Ghz Wifi at 150 Mbps. Lately I noticed things have been slowing down, so I re-tested... it was worse than I thought: wired at 90 Mbps, 5Ghz at 180 Mbps (yes, double a wired connection), and 2.4 Ghz at 30 Mbps.
I use Speedtest.net to get these figures. The main cable line comes right to my modem with no splitters or attenuaters. I verified that Xfinity had the latest firmware pushed to my unit. They say the signal strength to their lines is great, and I actually believe them because I had them run all new lines just over a year ago. Comcast/Xfinity won't assist past checking signal strength and remotely resetting the router, as they are pushing me to rent their XFi Advanced Gateway. I'm about 3 months past my warranty date, so I REALLY hope my modem/router didn't go south.
Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

1. log into the modem and get a screen snip of the cable connections page. it shows the connection back to the isp.
2. you're using the speedtest app? If so, try testing with speedtest.xfinity.com or dslreports.com the speedtest site can pick bad servers sometimes and give inconsistent results.
3. Have you tried checking the cable on the hardwired device?

Screenshots of the Connections page attached.
I re-tested using the Xfinity speedtest. Results were similar: Enthernet at 94Mbps, 5Ghz at 325Mbps, 2.4Ghz at 39Mbps.
The hardwired device is connected with a 6ft cable that is in perfect condition, so the physical cable does not appear to be the problem.
plemans Thank you very much for your response and help!

the 94mbps ethernet seems like its only negotiating a 10/100mbps connection and not gigabit.
What device are you testing hardwired with? I've ran into issues with ethernet adapters not negotiating the right connection speed, drivers being out dated, cable being bad, or even just not a gigabit adapter.
any other hardwired devices you could test with?
And check/swap the cables.

Hi, I have a new 1 gig service from Xfinity and with my brand new C7800 I am experiencing the following speeds:
S9+ Cell phone on WIFI 5G - 350 Mb down
PC Windows 10 on WIFI 5G - 60 MB down
same PC on wire directly from router - 30 MB down.
I have checked all cables and had Xfinity reset my service (which did nearly double my previous speeds to those listed above). I don't understand how my wired speed can be slower than my WIFI. I can't find any settings that would explain this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,

What are your wired speed results with a wired PC and ooklas installable speed test app?
Do you happen to have a different wired PC to compare tests results with?

Hello I purchased Nighthawk Xf2 c7800 and my wired connection shows the speed at 150mbps but wirless 5G has 400mbps and 2.4 has 60mbps. I have Xfinity 1g plan. I used to have Arris surf pro prior to this one and I used to get 500mbps on the wired one. I am planning to return my C7800. Any input to resolve this issue is highly appreciated. thank you.

Try a different wired PC to compare wired speed results.
Wireless devices will max out at aroun 400-500Mpbs on 5Ghz AC. You not see anything near 900Mpbs. Wired you should.
Be sure the ISP has provisioned the modem correctly for that speed package.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute them back ON.
