Seeking opinion: Time to replace C3700?
Is it time to buy new?
In late March, my Comcast connection began to frequently fail. Comcast tech support blamed my C3700 Cable Modem Router purchased in 2015. I suspected that Comcast wasn't able to support the increased demand on their system, but to be sure, I rented a modem/router from them. After using the rental for two months, I bought an Arris replacement and returned the rental. But my printer won't stay connected wirelessly to the Arris, per Brother tech support, so I will return that device. My connection has stabilized, but I'm not sure if that's a result of improvements to the feed from Comcast or the updated modems. My question:
Do I reinstall my Netgear C3700, which was working satisfactorily until the increased network demand due to Covid, or is it time to upgrade to a newer model? If you suggest a new model, which would you suggest? Home is long, narrow 1600 sq ft on one floor, wood frame and stucco construction with metal framing in closets, modem is centered, max 7 devices on network at one time but no more than 2 people using at a time, no gaming, occasional streaming. 100 Mbps provided by Comcast, have gotten download speeds above that on my iPhone. Bonus need: Improve reception on porch.
I'm not looking to spend unnecessarily, but need a solid network at home and appreciate all suggestions. Thank you!

You might try the C3700 in modem mode only instead of router/gateway mode. Then find you a external wifi router to connect to the modem. NG has exdernal router, R, RAX or Orbi systems available.
